Precision CNC Machined Structural Links for Robotics

RobotPartsCNC provides precision CNC machining services for robotic structural links, arm components, and chassis support parts. We support robotics companies and automation integrators by converting CAD designs into functional hardware that meets specific stiffness, weight, and geometric requirements.

Whether you require one-off prototypes for engineering validation or repeatable batches for system assembly, our Shenzhen-based facility offers the technical capabilities to execute complex mechanical designs.

Engineering Stiffness and Weight in Structural Components

Robotic structural links require a precise balance between bending rigidity and mass. Excess weight increases motor load and power consumption, while insufficient rigidity leads to vibration and positioning errors. Our engineering team reviews CAD models specifically for the factors below.

Thin-Wall Machining

Managing material removal to reduce weight while maintaining structural integrity and a favorable strength-to-weight ratio.

Stress Concentration Points

Identifying areas that require fillets or radii to prevent fatigue failure during operation.

Joint Connection Geometry

Ensuring bores, slots, and mounting faces maintain required tolerances for bearings, actuators, and fasteners.

We assist in optimizing designs to minimize machining time and material waste without compromising the structural performance of the link.

CNC Machining Capabilities for Complex Geometry

Structural links often feature complex, non-prismatic shapes that require multi-axis machining. We utilize 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC milling to produce components that standard shops may find difficult to fixture.

5-Axis Milling

Enables the machining of complex profiles, angled holes, and contoured surfaces in a single setup, improving dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

High-Precision Boring

We hold tight tolerances on bearing seats and pivot points, critical for smooth robot joint articulation.

Complex Fixturing

Our team develops custom fixtures to secure thin-walled parts, preventing distortion during high-speed milling.

Material Selection: 6061 vs. 7075 Aluminum

The choice of material is fundamental to the performance of a robotic link. We primarily machine high-strength aluminum alloys suited for structural applications, and also machine stainless steels and engineering plastics for specialized needs.

Aluminum 6061-T6

The industry standard for most robotic links. It offers a favorable strength-to-weight ratio, excellent machinability, and responds well to anodizing. It is the default choice for general-purpose structural components.

Aluminum 7075-T6

Used when higher tensile strength and fatigue resistance are required, such as in high-load arm segments or base components. 7075 provides steel-like strength at a fraction of the weight but requires careful machining to manage internal stresses.

We also machine stainless steels (303, 304, 17-4PH) and engineering plastics for specialized applications requiring high wear resistance or chemical inertness.

Precision Tolerances and Mechanical Fits

Robotic assembly relies on the accurate fit of mating parts. RobotPartsCNC adheres to strict geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards to ensure your structural links integrate correctly with motors, gearboxes, and sensors.

  • Bore Tolerances: We hold tight tolerances on bearing fits and shaft bores to prevent play and vibration.

  • Positional Accuracy: Our CMM inspection verifies that mounting holes and pivot points are located precisely according to your CAD data.

  • Flatness and Perpendicularity: Critical for mounting plates and interface brackets to ensure alignment across the entire robot assembly.

Surface Finishing for Performance and Aesthetics

Structural links often serve as both load-bearing members and exposed external components. We offer a range of finishes to meet functional and cosmetic requirements.

Hard Anodizing

Increases surface hardness and wear resistance, ideal for links subject to friction or harsh environments.

Clear or Colored Anodizing

Provides corrosion protection and a consistent aesthetic finish for branding.

Bead Blasting

Creates a uniform matte surface, useful for removing machining marks and preparing parts for final coating.

Laser Marking

Permanent identification for part numbers, serial numbers, or assembly instructions, essential for traceability.

Prototype to Production Workflow

RobotPartsCNC scales with your project. We manage the transition from initial design validation to full-scale production without requiring a change in suppliers.

1

Design Review

We perform DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis to flag potential issues with thin walls, deep pockets, or inaccessible features.

2

Prototyping

We utilize our rapid production setup to deliver functional prototypes in 3–7 working days.

3

Low-Volume / Production

Once the design is finalized, we optimize machining paths and fixtures to reduce cycle times and unit costs for batches ranging from 50 to 1,000+ units.

Quality Assurance and Inspection

We maintain strict quality control for all structural components. Our inspection process verifies geometry, fits, and documentation requirements for your project.

CMM Measurement

Verification of complex geometries and hole patterns.

Dimensional Inspection

Use of bore gauges, micrometers, and thread gauges to ensure all features meet print specifications.

Documentation

Upon request, we provide Dimensional Inspection Reports, First Article Inspection (FAI) reports, and material certificates to satisfy project compliance requirements.
